Notes

Comments from Gery Heilman, daughter of Anton J. Heilman and Barbara Lipp Heilman:
My dad told me the death dates of Ludwina and Josephine were mixed up by the guy who did the crosses. So Josephine DOD would be June 11, 1923 which matches with the Hague book and my records. My records also show Ludwina DOD would be Jan 27, but I have both 1923 and 1924 written down. Since my records show our grandfather married Marcella Kraft on May 12 1924 in Aberdeen SD. This was the arranged marriage by the relatives to help our grandfather with the children. Since the marriage was in 1924 correct DOD was probably Jan 27, 1924. I think he got married shortly after the death of Ludwina.
My records show Josephine, our aunt, was born in Hague 3-13-1894 I know our grandfather Anton Heilman became a citizen in 1888. He landed in New York around Nov 1886. My citizen record show Lawrence Keller landed in New York Oct. 1886, became a citizen Nov 1891.

A little bit of my family history, Ludwina was taking care of Josephine and her family of 4 small children. In addition during this period Ludwina was very ill with cancer. My father was in school at Richardton at this time. All the older children were married. This left Anna, and Monica at home. I think Monica was the youngest around 13. After the wedding my father was not able to return to school at Richardton, Anna and Monica were send to Mpls to the nunnery to work.

ADDITIONAL COMMENTS: 1. Franz (Lorenz) Keller, did come to American. On his application for intent of citizenship his name was written as Lawrence Keller by the clerk, and states he emigrated to the U.S. on or about Oct. 1886, landed at New York. Paperwork was done Nov 1886, Territory of Dakota, county of Edmunds. I also have a copy of final citizen paperwork showing a Lorenz Keller gained Citizenship in the State of North Dakota on 29 May 1893. This depends on the record I obtained at the Emmons county house to be the correct Lawrence Keller.

2. My dad told me his grandfather died around 1904 @Hague. The land for the first cemetery west of town was donated by our great grandfather. I don’t know if it was Heilman or Keller. When my dad told me I assumed it was Heilman’s, when he said we donated the land. He never said his grandfather was the first person buried there. according to Katie’s 1st and 2nd book, Lorenz Keller was the first person buried there. In Katie’s 2nd book, Hague Area book 2 Lawrence Klein gave a list of people buried in the old cemetery west of town. The list Lawrence Klein provided was the only known record to exist. In both books no DOD is recorded for Lawrence Keller. Personally I’m doubtful he was the first person buried there. END OF COMMENTS.

[NOTE: March 14, 2020: Geri Heilman, daughter of Anton and Barbara Heilman, communicated with Robert Leo Heilman from Mrytle Creek, Oregon and author of Children of Death regarding the spelling of Rombs vs Rups.

Dear Geri, I can't find any indication that a Barbara "Rumbs" of the right age ever existed but she is listed in the 1852 Catholic Church parishioner list for Elsass as Barbara Rups, age 8. I'm changing my software to reflect that.]

Barbara's grave marker at St. Mary Catholic Cemetery, Hague, ND lists her as born in 1842. Based on the 1852 Catholic Church parishioner list she was born in 1844 instead of 1842 as indicated on her grave marker.
