Roman Catholic
The local one room country schools were taught in german
within the german communities. English did not arrive until
the late 1930's.
Carl:
Elementary. Could read and write in German and English.
Self taught.
Barbara:
Elementary
Farming. Raised 12 children.
Carl:
None. During WWI Carl and Tony Miller, of Hague, ND, were
sent by their parents to Canada to escape the military
draft. They remained there until the end of the war.
Carl:
No known illnesses.
Barbara:
No illness until later in life she became forgetful and
disoriented and had difficulty concentrating on any subject
for any length of time. It did appear that she had signs of dementia.
Carl was a member of the Knights of Columbus and Barbara was a member of Alter Society, St. Mary Catholic Church, Hague, ND.
